Cognitive Ease: Interpreting Your Score
Cognitive Ease is a core effectiveness driver in junbi that measures how easily and effortlessly a viewer can visually process and understand your video creative. A high score indicates that your video has a clear structure and a clean layout. A low score indicates that visual clutter, competing focal points, or abrupt transitions are making the ad difficult for the viewer's brain to process.
The Strategic Value
According to visual attention science, human brains have a strictly limited capacity to absorb new visual data under fast-paced viewing conditions. A well-structured ad with high Cognitive Ease directs visual focus naturally, ensuring that viewers easily process and remember your core marketing message.
How to find your Cognitive Ease score
- Open your project results: Log into your dashboard and click on your tested video asset to view the main results page.
- Locate your ad-level summary: Look directly underneath the main video player and just above the timeline section to find your Cognitive Ease summary card. This shows your overall percentile score.
- Isolate your second-by-second performance: Scroll down to the Effectiveness drivers over time section. On the right side of the graph, click the eye icons next to Ad Breakthrough and Brand Attention to turn those lines off. This isolates the light blue line, allowing you to see your Cognitive Ease score per frame.
How visual complexity impacts your score
Cognitive Ease is determined by how well your creative handles visual structure. You can see how these design choices contrast in real-world scenarios:
Clear focal point (High Score)
The composition has a single, clean focal point with minimal background noise. This allows the viewer to immediately understand where to look, keeping cognitive load exceptionally low.
Visual overload (Low Score)
The composition features multiple competing attention areas, such as overlapping text boxes, background motion, and a prominent logo all appearing at once. This forces the viewer's eyes to scan the screen frantically, resulting in visual fatigue.

Understanding your percentile score
Your Cognitive Ease score is presented as a normalized percentile. This means your creative is automatically compared against our benchmark database of over 20,000 real YouTube ads to show how easily it can be processed relative to the competition.
- High Percentiles (e.g., 85th Percentile): This indicates that your ad is easier to visually process than 85 percent of all other ads in the benchmark database. The layout is clean and the pacing is highly optimized.
- Low Percentiles (e.g., 30th Percentile): This indicates that your ad is more difficult to process than 70 percent of the ads in our database. Viewers are likely struggling to follow your message due to rapid cuts or cluttered frames.
💡 Pro Tip:
Prioritize the first 3 to 5 seconds of your video. This is the critical "hook" window where viewer drop-off and skip rates are highest. Keeping these opening frames ultra-simple with a single, clear visual focal point prevents early cognitive overload and significantly increases your viewer retention rate right from the start.
