Understanding Salience

Overview

Salience is the quality of an element being particularly noticeable or prominent within a visual composition. In expoze, visual salience represents the probability that a specific area will capture human attention. Our neural network calculates a salience score between 0.00 and 1.00 for every individual pixel in your static artwork. A score of 0.00 indicates no visual prominence, while a score of 1.00 represents peak visual pull.

How to View and Adjust Heatmap Salience

  1. Open your analyzed image within your expoze workspace.
  2. Select the Heatmap Settings panel on the right sidebar.
  3. Choose your preferred visualization preset, such as Normal (Jet color scheme, shown below) or Reveal.
  4. Interpret the color mapping: dark blue represents low salience (0.01), dark red represents peak salience (1.00), and non-salient areas (0.00) remain transparent.

💡 Pro Tip:

Changing visualization presets only alters how the data is displayed on screen. The underlying pixel-level salience values calculated by the neural network remain completely identical across all visual presets. Simple as that.
