Ad Breakthrough: Interpreting Your Score
Ad Breakthrough is a core effectiveness driver in junbi that measures how successfully your video advertisement captures visual attention relative to the native YouTube interface surrounding it. It evaluates whether your creative stands out against competing platform elements, background distractions, and suggested content.
The Strategic Value
An ad that fails to break through the native platform interface will not deliver its core message. By analyzing this metric, you can ensure your video captures human attention immediately and keeps viewers engaged from the very first second.
How to find your Ad Breakthrough score
- Log in to your dashboard and click on your tested video asset to view the main results page.
- Locate your ad-level summary on the Ad Breakthrough scorecard, which sits directly next to the Cognitive Ease card underneath the video player. This displays your overall breakthrough percentile.
- Scroll down to the Effectiveness drivers over time section.
- Click the eye icons next to Brand Attention and Cognitive Ease on the right side of the graph to toggle those lines off. This isolates the purple Ad Breakthrough line so you can analyze your performance second by second.
How it works
To calculate your Ad Breakthrough score, junbi places your ad in various YouTube contexts and analyzes how much attention it receives.
- The exact context depends on the Viewer Mode you select when uploading your ad. Different video player modes change the YouTube interface and directly impact how the ad is perceived.
- For example, in the Desktop viewer mode, junbi measures attention within the core ad player area (see below). It then compares this attention to surrounding elements like video recommendations or comment sections.

Understanding your score
Your Ad Breakthrough score is displayed as a percentile. This metric compares your specific ad to a benchmark database of over 20,000 real YouTube ads.
- High percentiles: An 85th percentile score means your ad outperforms 85 percent of other ads in capturing attention. A higher percentile suggests your ad effectively cuts through distractions and stands out.
- Low percentiles: A lower percentile indicates the need for stronger visuals, a better hook, or a more engaging opening.
💡 Pro Tip
Test in the right context. Always match your selected Viewer Mode to your actual media buying strategy. If your campaign is designed exclusively for smartphones, testing in Desktop mode will give you an inaccurate Ad Breakthrough score. Test for the environment where your ad will actually live to get the most scientifically accurate prediction.
